idea book: embroidered top

Found this in a magazine and then saw it in J. Crew this summer when shopping with Bets.

Had bought this shirt at a thrift store a few years back, loved the embroidery and color (poppy red/orange and sand). the cut was horrible.

But with my mom's handiwork (who is like magic on her sewing machine)i now have THIS little top for the rest of summer. complete with a new side pocket for a key and pacifier!

this is where my grandmother was from

“Element - Progress,” is a group exhibit about materials, process and the experience of making and viewing art. The exhibit features the work of Annie Varnot, Joel Bacon, Kirsten Nash & Nancy Hubbard from New York City; Jodi Hays & Richard Feaster from Nashville, Tennesee; and Kariann Fuqua from Columbus, Georgia.

Thank you toSloss Fine Woodworking, based in Nashville, for creating a perfect set of ledges to display my drawings for the show.

Summer Residency
The Department of Parks in Hot Springs National Park, Arkansas has awarded me a as Artist in Residence for the month of July. I am especially interested in studying the rock formations at the Ozark foothills at Gulpha Gorge and working in such a beautiful place.

Print Collaboration
Have you ever wanted to purchase some of my artwork AND give to another worthy cause? I will be working with the inventive folks at theworkingproof.com. They have invited me to create a limited edition print and to select a charity for part of the proceeds from sales. I plan to work with a Nashville-based print shop for this project. More to come...

Studio Update
Beginning in June, I will focus full time in the studio. If you are in or around Nashville, contact me for a studio visit.

Current Work
As always- take a look at galleryell.com or www.jodihays.com for updates on my work.
