quilt magic

my mother-in-law gave us this quilt with such intricate quilting.

my grandmother (memaw) gave my son (4 months old) a star quilt that gladys grant made. the fabric swatches are stunning. i love the red houndstooth (reminds me of a gouache i did at vermont studio center) and paisley.

inspired by chelsey scott's song of the same title. after i made this- a month or so later- the new anthropologie catalog came with much the same aesthetic.

party like its 1999

back in 1999 i got my first real job at "Internet Graphical Interface" ( I know, SO dated, right!) in Boston. i was a receptionist around a lot of geek-code type guys. i hate answering phones, but with a degree in drawing i was glad to have it (and to quit retail- but made some amazing friends when working at Paper Source in Cambridge). anyway, in my "research" on web sites on the job, i found maganda.org, it was my first experience in meeting a kindred spirit over the web. i followed her work on the site, and she'd make these lists of good things. still love it.

art: i seem to spend my whole life missing you

series of gouache on paper that i made at vermont studio center. they are quiet interiors titled from a letter from elizabeth bishop to robert lowell, installed in a group above an old barber table (found in massachuetts at now-defunct marie's consignment in lowell)

bookshelf still life: bone sculptures

I thought the first post should include, literally, myself. Bone skull of a critter next to a mold of my teeth, and some old temporary crown for my front teeth--sitting in our bookshelves
